'Monster Hunter World: Icebourne' expansion arrives fall 2019 – Engadget

Sony

There’s about to be a whole lot more to explore in Monster Hunter: World. Capcom announced today that a new expansion called Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will be making its way to consoles in fall 2019. The massive update will include new locales, monsters and gear, as well as a continuation of the base game’s narrative. The Iceborne expansion is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC version coming at a later date.

Details about Iceborne are pretty sparse so far. Capcom posted a short teaser trailer for the release, which is almost a full year away. In it, you can see a dragon-like monster named Rathalos flying across the ocean before reaching a previously undiscovered island of rock and ice. The trailer fades out before too much is revealed but longtime Monster Hunters might recognize some audio and visual markers that appear at the end of the video, including a strong hint that the monster Nargacuga may appear in the expansion.

In addition to the Iceborne expansion planned toward the back half of 2019, Capcom is also planning on a Monster Hunter crossover with The Witcher 3 that will bering Geralt into the Monster Hunter universe. The There’s no word on when that collaboration will become available, but it looks like 2019 is shaping up to be a good year for Monster Hunters.

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy A8s, the first of the company’s first handsets to feature its hole punch screen technology, otherwise known as the ‘Infinity-O’ display.

The phone sports a Snapdragon 710 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage that’s expandable up to 512GB.

Additionally, the handset features a 6.4-inch (2,340 x 1,080-pixel resolution) Full HD+ LCD IPS display with a hole in the top left of the display for the phone’s 24-megapixel selfie shooter.

On the rear, the phone hosts a triple rear-facing camera setup that includes a 24-megapixel main sensor, as well as 5-megapixel and 10-megapixel sensors.

Further, on the rear is the handset’s fingerprint scanner, which means the phone does not feature in-display handset. The device also includes a 3,400mAh battery and in a surprising move, lacks the 3.5mm headphone jack.

It’s currently unknown if the phone will come to Canada, though given the Galaxy A8 release here, it’s likely. The Galaxy A8s will be available starting December 21st in select markets and is available in’Blue,’ ‘Grey’ and ‘Green.’

During the Monster Hunter: World Special Developer Update Capcom revealed Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth and Nergigante are coming to Monster Hunter: World along with a new Appreciation Fest.

Here are highlights from the Special Developer Update featuring series executive producer Ryozo Tsujimoto:

Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth

2018-12-10_073504

Kulve Taroth, the monster that previously appeared in limited-time events is coming back as a new Arch-Tempered form. The basic strategy is the same, where up to 16 players from the Hub can join together in groups of 4 each to take it on in the Kulve Taroth Siege.

As you work on repelling the Arch-Tempered  Kulve Taroth, you’ll raise your pursuit and reward levels to earn appraisal weapons and other rewards. The main difference between this one and the regular Kulve Taroth is that the Arch-Tempered version can be pushed into a new “Furied” state by fulfilling certain conditions before it sheds its gold plating.

Completing the Siege under these conditions will give you a chance at some “incredible rewards.” However, keep in mind that while in this state it’ll unleash new, powerful attacks.

By meeting certain conditions during the Siege for Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth, you might find rainbow items among your Siege rewards that are a grade more powerful than gold rewards, and may even include all-new appraisal weapons. The developers have prepared loads of new appraisal weapons for each weapon type, including a new γ (gamma) series of armor made from Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth materials.

With the introduction of Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth, the standard Kulve Taroth will no longer appear, but all of the previous rewards can be obtained from the new Arch-Tempered version. The Arch-Tempered Kulve Taroth Siege will be available from 4:00pm PST on December 19, 2018 until 3:59pm PST on January 3, 2019.

Capcom announced its last major new title update for Monster Hunter: World, and it is Arch-Tempered Nergigante. While no further details were shared, you can expect it to be a very tough fight according to Tsujimoto.

Monster Hunter: World is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Check our previous reports for more on the Iceborne expnsion that was announced for Autumn 2019 and a special collaboration with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that brings Geralt of Rivia to the game in early 2019.
