The province’s independent police watchdog is investigating a shooting involving an RCMP officer that took place early Saturday morning in Truro, N.S.

RCMP and the Truro Police Service are keeping mum about the incident, which has closed a downtown road.

The RCMP has so far only confirmed that an RCMP officer shot someone in Colchester County on Saturday morning.

A news conference will take place at police headquarters in Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

The province’s Serious Incident Response Team, a body that investigates serious incidents involving police, has been called in.

“It involved the police, but I can’t say anything until I know something,” said SIRT director Felix Cacchione. “And right now, I’m not disturbing the investigators in doing their job.”

Truro police are referring all questions about the incident to the RCMP.

Truro police announced on Facebook that Willow Street is closed between the Best Western Truro Glengarry hotel and the Lawtons drugstore, and that it will likely be closed for most of the day.
