Technically, Cyberpunk 2077 is a last-gen game. The console version being sold today was designed for the last generation of hardware, with CDPR promising a free upgrade to a next-gen “optimized” version some unspecified time in 2021.

And yet playing Cyberpunk 2077 on last-gen consoles…may not be recommended for many, given the issues that players are running into with the base models of Xbox One and PS4 especially.
While it’s true that Xbox One and PS4 are seven year old consoles at this point, Cyberpunk is being sold for those platforms, and even if some percentage of the estimated 113 million PS4s and ~50+ million Xbox Ones might be the upgraded PS4 Pro and One X, the vast majority are still the originals. And with new-gen consoles PS5 and Series X/S being A) incredibly expensive and B) nearly impossible to find, a ton of Cyberpunk console players will be on those old units.
And things are…a bit rough, shall we say.
The past day or so has brought out viral footage of the game running on base consoles that is some of the most hilariously bad performance I’ve ever seen for a AAA game:
While many of these people did not have the day one patch, even if they did, there’s no guarantee these kind of graphic problems would be resolved, and some are reporting that the patch hasn’t even been available yet.
While PS4 Pro seems to offer some improvements over base PS4, I wouldn’t say that looks particularly great either:

It’s really only when you get to Xbox One X that things start to feel like they’re more passable visually, though the One X dramatically outperforms all those other consoles in terms of horsepower:
But the most viral footage and screenshots are on base models, and from what I can tell, it’s mostly overwhelming the conversation about the game on launch day on social media:

The main platform from Cyberpunk 2077 is likely to be PC, where the game broke a concurrent playercount record on Steam last night for a single player game. All Cyberpunk reviews from critics are based on the PC version of the game where the game looks its best, but even if the game managed high scores, the frequent bugs and crashes were brought up as a negative frequently.
Obviously I understand the desire to play Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, but if you have an older console especially, you may want to consider holding off until CDPR release a patch or four before heading in to hopefully improve performance. With a main campaign around 15-20 hours (and dozens more of side stuff to do after) you may not want your first playthrough to be marred by this level of issues. It’s not clear how long it will take to improve performance across all the different platforms, but there are obviously going to be massive patches incoming as they try to rectify how “hot” this game came in after three delays, trying to slide in before the holiday season. And it worked, they had 8 million pre-orders for the game, which is close to GTA V numbers.
While Cyberpunk the game may be just fine, you should know what you’re getting into if you hop in day one. Your experience could be better or worse than what you see here, but just don’t be surprised if it’s not quite the sci-fi dreamland you saw at E3 or in preview footage. There’s a lot of work to be done.
CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to offer satellite-based Starlink WiFi service on flights within the next several years.
The airline said Friday the service will be free to passengers.
United said it will begin testing the service early next year and begin offering it on some flights by later in 2025.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The announcement comes as airlines rush to offer more amenities as a way to stand out when passengers pick a carrier for a trip. United’s goal is to make sitting on a plane pretty much like being on the ground when it comes to browsing the internet, streaming entertainment and playing games.
“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do on board a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” CEO Scott Kirby said in announcing the deal.
The airline says Starlink will allow passengers to get internet access even over oceans and polar regions where traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals may be weak or missing.
