Apple has launched an app for Android called ‘Tracker Detect‘ to help users detect unexpected AirTags and other Find My network-equipped products that may be nearby or traveling with them without their knowledge. The tech giant released the app in an effort to boost privacy and help users stay safe.
The Cupertino- based tech company released ‘Tracker Detect’ app on Google’s Play Store, and said that users can scan to try to find AirTags or compatible sensors if they believed someone is using it to track their location.
The app looks for item trackers that are separated from their owner and that are compatible with Apple’s Find My network.
“These item trackers include AirTag and compatible devices from other companies. If you think someone is using AirTag or another device to track your location, you can scan to try to find it,” explains Apple’s description of the Tracker Detect app.
With this app, Andorid users can avoid being tracked and stay on alert in case someone is trying to stalk them by using AirTags or other Apple sensors.
The ‘Tacker Detect’ app will also offer instructions on how one can remove the battery from the AirTag and switching off the device. The app also directs Android users to contact law officials in case an unknown AirTag has put an individual’s safety at risk.
What are AirTags? Apple launched AirTag earlier this year which is a tracking device. AirTags are small devices that can be attached to items such as keys, wallets and bags to locate them in case they are lost.
The tracking device is currently available at a price of Rs 3,190 approximately.
The tech giant said the new app enables Android users to proactively scan for item trackers that are no longer with their owner and are lost.
If such a tracker has been moving with the user for more than 10 minutes, the app will help locate it by playing a sound to alert them and provide measures to disable it.
With this, Apple said that it is raising the bar on privacy for their users and the industry, and hopes others will follow.
CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to offer satellite-based Starlink WiFi service on flights within the next several years.
The airline said Friday the service will be free to passengers.
United said it will begin testing the service early next year and begin offering it on some flights by later in 2025.
