Apple Shares iPhone 12 Camera Module Orders Between Three Suppliers – MacRumors

Published

 on

Three of Apple’s suppliers will share camera module orders for its forthcoming “iPhone 12” lineup, according to sources from Taiwan’s handset supply chain (via DigiTimes).

Rumors have suggested Apple will complete its transition to an all-OLED iPhone lineup in 2020 with one new 5.4-inch device, two 6.1-inch models, and one 6.7-inch handset.

Rumors suggest the 6.7-inch ‌iPhone‌ and one 6.1-inch model will be higher-end OLED devices with triple-lens cameras, while the 5.4 and 6.1-inch models will be lower-end iPhones with dual-lens cameras and a more affordable price tag.

LG has reportedly landed camera module orders for the two high-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch devices, with module shipments expected to reach 35-40 million units in 2020. Sharp and O-film are said to have grabbed orders for the two lower-end 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch phones, with camera module shipments expected to hit 50-55 million units this year.

Sharp is thought to account for 60 to 70 percent of those shipments, with the remaining 30-40 percent going to O-film. Production of the camera modules will reportedly begin in July.

Rumors suggest there will be a new TrueDepth camera system that cuts down on the size of the notch on the front. There are also rumors of a 3D triple-lens rear camera system that uses a laser to calculate depth information for objects in the room, improving both photography and AR capabilities.

The new 3D camera, which sounds like the LiDAR Scanner feature that Apple added in the 2020 iPad Pro, is expected to be limited to the high-end ‌iPhone‌ models

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the 6.1 and 5.4-inch iPhones are expected to go into mass production in September, while mass production on the larger 6.7-inch ‌iPhone‌ will be delayed until October because of its more complicated design. If production is delayed until October, at least some of the iPhones could launch later than originally expected.

According to the latest industry estimates cited by the report, shipments of new iPhones are likely to reach 70 million in 2020, with the 6.1-inch models (both lower-end and high-end ones) to serve as the driving force, accounting for 50 percent of total shipments. The 5.4-inch model meanwhile is expected to make up 30-35 percent and the high-end 6.7-inch one 15-20 percent of shipments.

After a remarkable journey of 21 years, the Apple iPod is no more! Earlier this week, Apple announced the discontinuation of the iPod. It was October 23, 2001, when Apple introduced the first original iPod- the first MP3 player in the world that could load 1000 songs. All that was fancy within a pocket-sized device. It became one of the most iconic products by Apple. This original iPod used to feature a FireWire port to connect to a Mac, and it sold for $399 at that time. And after that, the world has seen various iPod generations come and go. Mediocre Pixel 6a: 3 older flagship phones that pummel Google's newest midranger – Notebookcheck.net

Published

 on

The Samsung Galaxy S20 may have been released two years ago, but that doesn’t make it any less capable now than it was at launch. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and Exynos 990 are both excellent performers — though the Snapdragon variant is definitely a cut above its Exynos sibling — and the 8 GB of RAM is still plenty for pretty much anything you need.

The Galaxy S20’s AMOLED panel is about as bright as anyone would realistically need, and 120 Hz makes it twice as fast as the one we’ll see on the Pixel 6a. The camera system on the Galaxy S20 does not disappoint, either — the massive 12 MP, 1/1.76-inch, optically-stabilised main sensor and 12 MP ultra-wide unit perform wonderfully, while the 64 MP 3x zoom effort performs about as well as you can expect from a digital zoom setup.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy S20 will receive its final Android update in 2023 but, as with the Pixel 5, there are plenty of custom ROMs out there and Android updates are pretty iterative nowadays anyway.

A refurbished Samsung Galaxy S20 can be had on Amazon for around US$400, and microSD expansion means you don’t have to worry about skimping and buying the cheapest version available.

The iPhone 11 is a really solid device for anyone who doesn’t want to spend an arm and a leg for a flagship experience. The Apple A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11 is still plenty powerful for 2022 and beyond. Just like the Pixel 6a, the iPhone 11 features a 1/2.55-inch main camera sensor and a 12 MP ultrawide unit, and Apple’s camera smarts put the setup on pretty much even footing — with the exception perhaps being night mode — with what we’re expecting from the Pixel 6a. The iPhone 11 will almost undoubtedly run circles around the Pixel 6a when it comes to video performance, despite having a similar sensor array.

Everyone even roughly in the know is aware of Apple’s legendary iOS update history. If you are unaware, Apple still supports the iPhone 6s — a device from 2015 — in 2022. The iPhone 11 will likely continue to receive iOS updates long after the Google Pixel 6a receives its last Android update.

You can often find a renewed iPhone 11 on Amazon for around US$350

The phone is powered by the Google Tensor chipset and comes with powerful cameras. The Pixel features dual rear cameras: a main lens and an ultrawide lens. As for the selfie camera on Pixel 6a, it’s the same great camera as Pixel 6.

Talking about the camera features, Google said, “The Pixel Camera is built to be versatile and adapt to your needs, and you’ll see some of those features and technologies on Pixel 6a — from Real Tone, which authentically represents all skin tones, to Night Sight, which makes low-light photography a breeze, to Magic Eraser in Google Photos, which makes distractions disappear.” Google also said that it has enhanced Magic Eraser so you can also change the color of distracting objects in your photo. Pixel 6a will be among the first Android devices to receive the upcoming Android 13 update.
