This new study will last three years and will be one of the largest digital-health studies conducted. Prior incidents have already shown that the Apple Watch is very good at spotting irregularities in the users’ heartbeats. One study that was published last year in November showed that these watches were good at detecting arterial fibrillation. Unfortunately, most participants didn’t complete the study.
With this new study, Apple is hoping to create a reputation as a creator of health tech. Tim Cook said last year that the greatest contribution to mankind would be in the healthcare sector. Myoung Cha in a statement said, “Apple technology is making a meaningful impact on scientific research through the powerful capabilities of iPhone and Apple Watch, all with privacy at the center of the participant experience,” according to Business Insider.
This study isn’t limited only to Apple Watch users, others can participate in it by borrowing an Apple Watch, or buying the watch at a discounted price. Anyone who is selected will be able to get a discounted Apple Watch from Best Buy for $49 plus tax. The goals of the study are to recruit 150,000 people. Also, anyone over the age of 65 covered by Medicare and owns an iPhone 6 or newer are all qualified. Once chosen, the candidates will be split into two groups. One group will be the people who use the Heartline app with the health tips, and the second group will both the app and the Apple Watch.

CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to offer satellite-based Starlink WiFi service on flights within the next several years.
The airline said Friday the service will be free to passengers.
United said it will begin testing the service early next year and begin offering it on some flights by later in 2025.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The announcement comes as airlines rush to offer more amenities as a way to stand out when passengers pick a carrier for a trip. United’s goal is to make sitting on a plane pretty much like being on the ground when it comes to browsing the internet, streaming entertainment and playing games.
“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do on board a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” CEO Scott Kirby said in announcing the deal.
The airline says Starlink will allow passengers to get internet access even over oceans and polar regions where traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals may be weak or missing.
