COVID-19 figures released Saturday by Bluewater Health provided some reason for optimism.

The hospital’s website showed the number of patients confirmed to have the virus had dropped to just two.

There were 21 at the Sarnia hospital suspected of having the novel coronavirus with tests pending, and the total number of patients who have died remained at 18.

Lambton Public Health received another 183 test results Friday, bringing the total to 9,082 — roughly 97 per cent have come back negative. The figures come two weeks after drive-through testing centres were launched in Sarnia and Petrolia, which are opened to the public each Saturday.

Overall, Sarnia-Lambton’s COVID-19 figures remained mostly unchanged following an update from Lambton Public Health Friday night.

The number of confirmed cases sits at 274, unchanged over the previous 24 hours, 25 people have died, which hasn’t changed since June 6, and the number of recovered cases has stayed at 233 since Tuesday night.

Vision Nursing Home remains the lone active institutional outbreak in Sarnia-Lambton. The Sarnia long-term care facility on Wellington Street has seen 54 positive cases, 28 staff and 26 residents, along with 10 deaths.
