The Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland has cancelled Art in the Park this year.

The event attracts thousands of people to Mike Weir Park each September, with around 100 artists and vendors participating from all over the province.

Coordinator Henry Kulik said putting the show off until 2021 is the responsible thing to do.

“Our planning committee has met on a couple of occasions and then, obviously, as things are progressing with the coronavirus, we didn’t see that we’d be able to hold the event which was scheduled for September the 12,” said Kulik.

“Realistically, safety concerns for the exhibitors, our guests and also for all the people volunteering to make the event a success that it is, that was a predominant feature.”

Kulik said vendors understand, but are naturally disappointed.

“A lot of these vendors set their plans back in January, they have a schedule and many of the shows have been cancelled until now and heading into the fall, so they were hoping perhaps we would be able to stage the show. But, it’s pretty clear now that we couldn’t do that with a high degree of certainty.”

Kulik said they’re looking forward to seeing everyone September 11, 2021.
