DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Concept Art Reveals Alternate Mister Fantastic Costume …

The Office alum John Krasinski had long been a fan-favourite choice to play Mister Fantastic and the actor finally got the chance to do so as a member of The Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Added during reshoots, Reed Richards’ role in the sequel was far too brief and his death at the hands of the Scarlet Witch…well, the less said about that, the better. Even so, it was a blast to see Krasinski suit up and a nice surprise to see the stretchy superhero make his MCU debut on Earth-838.

Unfortunately, Krasinski isn’t expected to play the MCU’s Reed Richards in Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four reboot, though some impressive names – including Matt Smith and Jake Gyllenhaal – are said to be in the running.

Concept art from the Doctor Strange sequel has now been revealed which offers a first look at the different costume designs considered for Reed in the movie. Among them is a blue and white version harkening back to one of the team’s classic comic book looks.

While Reed’s role was brief, Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron always planned on throwing the hero into the mix. “I always wanted Reed Richards in this thing,” he revealed last year. “In my very first draft, I wrote a tag just for the hell of it, of the events of the movie being recorded and reviewed by somebody in the Baxter Building, and a stretchy hand coming into frame to run it back.”

“Reed is probably my favourite Marvel comics character,” Waldron added, “so I was always gunning to get him in here somewhere.”

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We’ll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

The movie’s cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.

The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now streaming on Disney+.

A misspelled memorial to the Brontë sisters gets its dots back at last

Published

 on

LONDON (AP) — With a few daubs of a paintbrush, the Brontë sisters have got their dots back.

More than eight decades after it was installed, a memorial to the three 19th-century sibling novelists in London’s Westminster Abbey was amended Thursday to restore the diaereses – the two dots over the e in their surname.

The dots — which indicate that the name is pronounced “brontay” rather than “bront” — were omitted when the stone tablet commemorating Charlotte, Emily and Anne was erected in the abbey’s Poets’ Corner in October 1939, just after the outbreak of World War II.

They were restored after Brontë historian Sharon Wright, editor of the Brontë Society Gazette, raised the issue with Dean of Westminster David Hoyle. The abbey asked its stonemason to tap in the dots and its conservator to paint them.

“There’s no paper record for anyone complaining about this or mentioning this, so I just wanted to put it right, really,” Wright said. “These three Yorkshire women deserve their place here, but they also deserve to have their name spelled correctly.”

It’s believed the writers’ Irish father Patrick changed the spelling of his surname from Brunty or Prunty when he went to university in England.

Raised on the wild Yorkshire moors, all three sisters died before they were 40, leaving enduring novels including Charlotte’s “Jane Eyre,” Emily’s “Wuthering Heights” and Anne’s “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.”

Rebecca Yorke, director of the Brontë Society, welcomed the restoration.

“As the Brontës and their work are loved and respected all over the world, it’s entirely appropriate that their name is spelled correctly on their memorial,” she said.
