At Lillian Osborne High School in southwest Edmonton, one person has tested positive. Approximately 58 students, mostly from Grade 12, and two staff members must isolate, monitor for symptoms and be tested.
Ross Sheppard High School was the first outbreak of COVID-19 at a school in Edmonton, with three confirmed cases of the virus.
There is also one case of COVID-19 confirmed at each of the following schools: Westmount Junior High School, Parkview School, Vimy Ridge School, Highlands School and Ivor Dent School.
Meanwhile, Edmonton Catholic Schools announced a case of COVID-19 at St. Thomas Aquinas where 19 people are self-isolating.
Other Catholic schools with an identified case include Father Michael Troy, Louis St. Laurent, Archbishop MacDonald, Archbishop O’Leary and Holy Trinity.
As of Wednesday, 10 Catholic schools have at least one case and 81 people self-isolating, said Edmonton Catholic Schools spokeswoman Lori Nagy.
The province announced 171 new cases in the province Wednesday. There are currently 1,495 active cases across Alberta, with 710 of those in the Edmonton Zone.
Calgary has the next highest total at 507. The North Zone has 207 while central Alberta and southern Alberta have 32 and 34 respectively. There are five cases not linked to a geographical location.
There are currently 38 people in hospital with COVID-19, six of whom are in intensive care.
Since the start of the pandemic there have been 16,128 confirmed cases of COVID-19 while 14,739 people have recovered. A total of 254 people have died with COVID-19 being a contributing factor.
