Toronto Maple Leafs
Goaltender Matt Murray will get the start tonight against the New Jersey Devils, who are riding a 10-game winning streak.
Murray played his first game since the season opener on Tuesday, making 35 saves in a 5-2 victory over the Penguins. The 28-year-old missed several weeks with a groin injury.
Sheldon Keefe notes that goaltender Ilya Samsonov (knee) isn’t 100 per cent yet and is expected to remain out through the weekend. ,
The 25-year-old is 6-2 this season with a .921 save percentage and 2.23 GAA. He last played on Nov. 5 against the Boston Bruins.
Edmonton Oilers
Captain Connor McDavid was skating with the rest of the forwards on the main ice at practice today after taking a knee-on-knee hit from Los Angeles Kings defenceman Alex Edler in last night’s 3-1 loss.
The Oilers’ defence skated separately on a different ice sheet. Per TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, head coach Jay Woodcroft was not on the ice with either group but was watching the defence skate.
Rishaug also notes that Stuart Skinner was in the starter’s net at the forwards practice as the team is set to take on the Vegas Golden Knights Saturday night.
Montreal Canadiens
Head coach Martin St. Louis confirmed Wednesday that goaltender Sam Montembeault will get the start tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Defenceman Mike Matheson has yet to receive the green light to make his season debut and will not suit up tonight.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have recalled defenceman Ville Heinola from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
The 24-year-old has seven assists in 11 games with the Moose this season. In 25 career NHL games with Winnipeg, he has one goal and 10 points.
Forward Mason Appleton was also placed on the injured reserve as he is expected to miss eight-to-12 weeks after undergoing wrist surgery. The 26-year-old was injured on Saturday against the Seattle Kraken.
He has one goal and six points in 14 games this season with the Jets.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Head coach Brad Larsen said forward Emil Bemstrom is a game-time decision tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.
The 23-year-old has a goal and an assist in three games this season with Columbus. With the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, he has seven goals and 14 points in 10 games.
Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins is out one-to-two weeks after getting injured on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers, causing him to leave the game in the second period.
Merzlikins has struggled this season, going 2-5-0 with a 4.74 GAA and an .864 save percentage.
Defenceman Jake Bean is also expected to be out for awhile after suffering an upper-body injury on Tuesday after taking a hit in the corner. He has a goal and six points in 14 games this season.
Forward Jack Roslovic is back in the lineup tonight.
Waivers
The San Jose Sharks waived defenceman Scott Harrington Thursday afternoon.
The 29-year-old has one assist in two games this season with San Jose. He has not been in the lineup since Oct. 22.
A second-round pick (54th overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2011 NHL Draft, Harrington has had NHL stints with the Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets and Sharks.
