Porsche seeks to evoke a healthy dose of nostalgia with its latest addition to the iconic 911 family: meet the 2023 Porsche 911 Sport Classic, a retro-inspired 992-gen 911. According to the German carmaker, it’s ‘inspired by the original 911’ and, in particular, the Carrera 2.7 RS. It will be a limited-edition model with only 1,250 units planned, and, yes, some of those will be coming to Canada. The Porsche 911 Sport Classic is the second in a series of four ‘Heritage Design’ models, with the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition being the first.

Performance-wise, the 911 Sport Classic gets the same twin-turbocharged 3.7-litre flat-six found in the 911 Turbo. However, instead of 572 hp, the output has been reduced to 543 hp. Don’t tune out now; there’s a good reason for the “downgrade.” That power is fed exclusively to the rear wheels via a proper, honest-to-God seven-speed stick-shift.
By going down this route, Porsche sacrifices the stout performance of the 911 Turbo for a more engaging driving experience. It also means the 911 Sport Classic is the most powerful manual 911 on the market today. Complementing the powertrain is a “specially tailored” sports exhaust; and the usual Porsche goodies like rear-wheel steering, active anti-roll bars, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport active dampers.

The exterior styling highlights of the 911 Sport Classic include the double-bubble roof and hood, both made from carbon fibre. The wheels are exclusive to the model, and are a modern interpretation of the Fuchs design, another nod to Porsche heritage, just like the Sport Grey Metallic paint and contrasting light Sport Grey stripes.
Customers will also be able to specify the 911 Sport Classic in Black (non-metallic), Agate Grey Metallic, or Gentian Blue Metallic. However, the most notable design element has to be the retro ‘ducktail’ spoiler at the rear, just like on the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS.
The heritage theme continues on the interior with the use of Pepita cloth upholstery for the door panels and seats. It blends well with leather and wood trimmings that form part of the standard package. A badge on the passenger side of the dashboard above the glovebox enumerates the car’s serial number in the 1,250-unit production run.
The 911 Sport Classic will be available in Canada as a 2023-model-year car, with the first units expected to land at your local Porsche Centre in late 2022. No word yet on pricing, but that is probably of little consequence for Porsche loyalists and ardent collectors who are undoubtedly already making moves to secure an allocation.
CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to offer satellite-based Starlink WiFi service on flights within the next several years.
The airline said Friday the service will be free to passengers.
United said it will begin testing the service early next year and begin offering it on some flights by later in 2025.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The announcement comes as airlines rush to offer more amenities as a way to stand out when passengers pick a carrier for a trip. United’s goal is to make sitting on a plane pretty much like being on the ground when it comes to browsing the internet, streaming entertainment and playing games.
“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do on board a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” CEO Scott Kirby said in announcing the deal.
The airline says Starlink will allow passengers to get internet access even over oceans and polar regions where traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals may be weak or missing.
