The Thames Art Gallery is debuting a new exhibition called “Tether” that grapples with themes such as visibility, memory, and intimacy as they pertain to motherhood.

Tether spotlights the personal experiences of parents who practice art in different fields, such a sewing, filmmaking, and photography. Each artist offers a unique perspective on motherhood with their own children being of various ages and abilities.

“This collection of artwork incorporates works produced three decades ago to the current moment,” said a statement from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Seven artists’ work will be featured in the presentation – April Hickox, Natasha Lan, Jennifer Long, Kelly O’Brien, Theola Ross, Arpita Shah, and Jessica Wohl.

The exhibition opened to the public on April 6 and will remain at the Thames Art Gallery until June 4. Regular hours at the gallery are Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours Thursday evening until 7 p.m.

An opening reception is being held on Friday and is free to the public. Many of the artists will be in attendance and available for conversation. Light refreshments are being served, as well. All are welcome to the family-friendly event that kicks off at 7 p.m.

If you’re interested in learning from one the artists, Wohl will be holding a Visible Mending with Patches Workshop at the Thames Art Gallery Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required ahead of time and spaces are limited. Reservations can be made online.

“Take advantage of this opportunity to support your local art scene and experience the vibrant artistic community of Chatham-Kent,” said a message of encouragement from the Municipality.
