The display is described as cutting-edge because it uses advanced LTPO technology which allows it to switch the refresh rate automatically to maximize battery life. Where the OnePlus 11 had LTPO 3.0, the OnePlus 12 R will—uniquely—use a fourth-generation version of the technology.
It will permit faster changes to its refresh rate, including 90Hz and 72Hz rates, which should make for better performance with less battery drain. Presumably this is why the event refers to “Smooth” in its title, so the content will always look its best whether you’re looking at still images, movies or games.

The battery will have 5,500mAh capacity, the largest yet in a OnePlus phone. The company says this makes it ideal for playing games extensively. There’s also something called Battery Health Engine technology which, the company claims, helps keep the battery in tip-top condition longer than rivals. Last week, OnePlus launched the design of the OnePlus 12R, unveiling two colors, Cool Blue and Iron Gray, the first glossy, the second a matte finish.
And like the OnePlus 12, the Alert Slider, so popular with OnePlus devotees, will be present, in its new location of the left-hand edge instead of the right. OnePlus will doubtless release more information in the next weeks, before the full unveiling on Tuesday, January 23.
CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to offer satellite-based Starlink WiFi service on flights within the next several years.
The airline said Friday the service will be free to passengers.
United said it will begin testing the service early next year and begin offering it on some flights by later in 2025.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The announcement comes as airlines rush to offer more amenities as a way to stand out when passengers pick a carrier for a trip. United’s goal is to make sitting on a plane pretty much like being on the ground when it comes to browsing the internet, streaming entertainment and playing games.
“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do on board a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” CEO Scott Kirby said in announcing the deal.
The airline says Starlink will allow passengers to get internet access even over oceans and polar regions where traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals may be weak or missing.
