The Major League Baseball Players Association has agreed to report for training camp by July 1 ahead of a 60-game season, but the deal is not yet finalized due to “one last health-and-safety hurdle” to clear, according to ESPN‘s Jeff Passan.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post noted that if/when the MLBPA agrees to the health and safety protocols required to attempt a 2020 season, that deal will be a “living document.” It will be updated as new information is learned regarding best practices for dealing with COVID-19.
Each teams’ 60-game season is expected to be completed in a span of 66 days.
On Monday, MLB clubs voted unanimously to go ahead with the truncated season, which will be the shortest in league history since 1878.
