Two more active COVID-19 cases were confirmed Saturday in Sarnia-Lambton by public health officials – boosting the region’s total to eight – along with an ongoing outbreak at a local seniors’ home.
The region’s total number of cases since the novel coronavirus pandemic began rose to 377, Lambton public health reported. Of those, 344 have been resolved and there have been 25 deaths.
The outbreak, declared Oct. 30, is at Fiddick’s retirement home in Petrolia. Just one resident has tested positive as of Saturday, but that’s all that’s required to trigger an outbreak under Ontario’s guidelines.
The resident, an 86-year-old woman, was taken to Bluewater Health. The Sarnia hospital was also treating two other confirmed cases of COVID-19 – a 72-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman – as of Saturday, according to Bluewater Health officials.
No Lambton Kent District or St. Clair Catholic District school board schools in Sarnia-Lambton had cases linked to them Saturday.
In addition to the pandemic, Lambton public health was also dealing with an ongoing salmonella outbreak at a Sarnia restaurant. The number of lab-confirmed cases connected to Barakat restaurant on Lambton Mall Road grew late last week to 33, with nine people hospitalized, Lambton public health officials said.
