You’re in quarantine. You’ve watched all of the new series and movies on Netflix, you’ve learned to bake delicious bread and desserts, and you’ve just ran out of bath bombs. It’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty… That fence that you’ve been meaning to repair? The broken lampshade still sitting in the attic? The garden needs a spruce-up? It’s time to get stuck in!
Quarantine is the ideal time for those home improvements that you were always too busy to start on. Fixing, decorating, re-decorating, creating and revamping your home is something you can do to occupy your time when you can’t go far from your home. Here’s some ideas to help push you in the right direction.
Outdoor and Garden Projects
If you’re lucky enough to have some outside space, think about adding some pizzazz! You can easily DIY some mason jar lights. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you like: use empty and cleaned jam jars, old glasses or bottles and put a tealight inside (or if you’re a serious DIY buff you can figure out how to incorporate lightbulbs or lighting fixtures). Set them up in key locations in your garden or even hang them from a tree, for example, using old wire or clothes hangers! They are ideal for those romantic evening dinners in the garden.
Have you taken up bird watching during quarantine? Get out your tools and craft a bird feeder! Again, they could be simple or complicated. Recycle your plastic bottles, cans or even teacups! If you have more resources, construct a beautiful wooden house for your chirpy companions. Add some seeds or dried fruit to keep everyone in your garden happy.
Indoor Necessities
Maybe you know exactly what needs to be fixed or revamped in your house, but you are unsure where to start, or you may not know which materials to use or how to use them. A very common DIY necessity is glue. What type of product you should use, how you use it and how to clean up any spills or mistakes are important things that you need to know before jumping into a project.
With hundreds of possibilities for your next DIY endeavour, it can be easy to be overwhelmed with all the options!
