Standup comedian, Trevor Noah who became the first African to host Comedy Central’s satirical news program, The Daily Show, has announced he will be leaving the show soon.
The 38-year-old from South Africa, first made headway to the show in 2015 replacing Jon Stewart.
In a video post shared Thursday on his Twitter page, Noah said his time was now up, though he did not share when his final show would be.
“It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected, found myself thinking throughout the time of everything we have gone through. The Trump Presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, more pandemic and I realize that after seven years, my time is up.
I want to say thank you to you, to you who watched this. I never dreamed that I would be here. I sort of feel like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I came here for a tour of what the previous show was and then the next thing you know I was handed the keys.
(However,) I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road, and when I got back out there, I realized there is another part of my life out there that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows.
I have loved hosting this show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges and one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to find a way to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly s***y, even on the worst days. We have laughed together, we have cried together.
Don’t worry, I am not disappearing. If I owe you money, I will still pay you,” said Noah in the Twitter post.
In addition, Comedy Central also released a statement saying it has been an amazing partnership over the past seven years.
