Artists of all skill levels encouraged to join Clare’s daily Févri-Art – SaltWire Network

February is a tough month for many and any activity to make it pass faster is typically welcomed. 
Research in the medical field suggests that art is useful for our mental and physical well-being.

With last year’s success of the Févri-Art challenge, launched by Le Conseil des arts de la Baie (CAB) in Clare, a repeat during COVID times was a given.

For the Févri-Art challenge both novice and experienced artists are encouraged to produce a piece of art every day for the month of February. It could be a painting, a drawing, a poem or a song. Participants are then encouraged to share their works on the Févri-Art 2021 Facebook group.
Municipality of Clare media officer Amy Paradis says anyone can join the art challenge. 

“In fact, Diane Nadon, the executive director of CAB, is encouraging artists from outside the region—even artists outside the country—to participate,” she says.
“While the goal is for artists to refine their craft by practising every day, folks can participate as often as they wish; no stress.”
This year, the Municipality of Clare has also prepared fine art boxes for immigrants through its  Communauté francophone accueillante (CFA) de Clare initiative so recipients can participate in the Févri-Art challenge.

The boxes are available to those who are new to the community and to residents who are curious about art. 
“We’re hoping that this safe online space will encourage people to make new connections – virtually and eventually in real life – with community members,” says Paradis.
Each box includes watercolour paints, watercolour pencils, a pencil, a set of brushes, a set of artist pens, a geometry set, a sketchbook, sheets of watercolor paper and a pack of ‘Colors of the World’ wax crayons.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has designated the Municipality of Clare as one of Canada’s 14 welcoming Francophone communities. 
The three-year pilot project – that runs from 2020 to 2023 – aims to contribute to making the community of Clare more welcoming for all and to ensure that all members of the community have a positive attitude towards new immigrants, including those who wish to settle in French.
Paradis says the Févri-Art boxes initiative is just one of many projects they have lined up over the course of their mandate, however CFA de Clare is designed to be driven by and for the community. “So, as time goes on, our goal is to give new immigrants a platform to lead certain community projects to help celebrate diversity,” she says.
