“The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us. We don’t take the decision to cancel sailings lightly, as we know customers rely on us to get to their destinations,” read a cancellation notice posted to the ferry authority’s website.
“We will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Among the sailings cancelled on Jan. 5 are:
Coastal Celebration (Vancouver-Victoria)
• 12:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
• 2:00 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
Spirit of Vancouver Island (Tsawwassen-Victoria)
• 11:00 a.m. departing Swartz Bay
• 1:00 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
Spirit of British Columbia (Vancouver-Victoria)
• 11:00 a.m. departing Tsawwassen
• 1:00 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
Environment Canada had forecast winds of up to 50 kilometres an hour near the Strait of Georgia around noon on Sunday.
