HALIFAX – More than a year after a wildfire ravaged a Halifax suburb, provincial fire officials say their investigation has stalled and they are asking for the public’s help.
Natural Resources Minister Tory Rushton says his department’s investigation is seeking to lay possible charges but has reached a point where it has “exhausted its efforts.”
Rushton says conservation investigators simply need more evidence before they can lay proceed to court.
He says under the provincial Forests Act, his department has 24 months to file charges following an offence.
Rushton wasn’t specific about what kind of evidence investigators are looking for, but he’s urging people to come forward if they feel they have information that hasn’t yet been shared.
The wildfire in Upper Tantallon began on May 28, 2023 and burned 969 hectares while destroying 151 homes.
