Injured actor Jeremy Renner updated concerned fans late Friday with a quick image via Instagram Stories. Surrounded by medical staff, he wrote, “Thank you Renowned Medical ICU team for beginning this journey” and included four “hands-in-prayer” emojis.
In the image, Renner is propped up in his hospital bed, wearing an oxygen mask, and looking like he’s seen better days (though still has great hair). He is surrounded by 11 people, many of whom are wearing scrubs.
Renner is currently at the Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, after his life-threatening January 1 accident in which he was hit by a 14,000 lb snow plow. After being helicopter-lifted to the hospital, he has undergone multiple surgeries for “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries.”
On Thursday, the Hawkeye and Hurt Locker star uploaded a short video, in which he is clearly trying to maintain good spirits following “his first shower in a week or so—gross!” His “sis” is in the video, also trying to keep things cheery as she massages his head. His “mama” is also nearby.
It is believed that Renner was plowing snow to help a family member move their car. When Renner came down from the vehicle, it unexpectedly rolled forward. TMZ reported that the plow was impounded “as evidence,” as the machine is supposed to have safety protocols to prevent it from doing what it did. The New York Post reported that Renner did the plow job himself only because police prevented his usual maintenance worker from going up to the property. Renner’s neighbor also remarked that had he not done a bit of plowing himself, and cleared a path to a nearby event center, the medical helicopter may not have been able to work as efficiently. “If I had woken an hour later, no one would have gotten to that road or any road,” he said.
The Mt. Rose area of Washoe County, Nevada, was pummeled by bad weather during the New Year’s holiday. On New Year’s Eve, dozens of drivers needed rescue assistance after they spun out due to snow on nearby Interstate 80.
As it happens, Saturday is the two-time Oscar-nominee Jeremy Renner’s 52nd birthday. Season two of his series Mayor of Kingstown is also set to launch on Paramount+ next week, and his Disney+ reality series, Rennervations, ironically enough about vehicle improvements, is still set for a debut this month.
It is unclear if Renner writing “Renowned” in his caption was a play on words, or if he was just a little punchy from his medication. For that matter, it is unclear if “Renown” is a play on the word Reno. We did not expect there to be so many potential puns in this story.
