QUEBEC – The Quebec government says it wants to meet the demands of Montrealers fed up with a housing project in the city’s southwest that caters to unhoused people living with addiction or mental health issues.

After defending the project for months, Montreal municipal officials are now asking the province to relocate day centre services at Maison Benoît Labre, which is across from an elementary school and includes a supervised drug-use site.

Parents and local residents had opposed the centre before it opened earlier this year, and now that it’s in operation, they say they’ve witnessed open drug use and aggressive behaviour, including when children are around.

Chantale Rouleau, minister responsible for social solidarity, told reporters in Quebec City today the province is in discussions with the city to move the day services, but she says resources for the vulnerable have to go somewhere.

Critics — including federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre — have cited Maison Benoît Labre as an example of elected leaders being too tolerant of criminal behaviour, saying the mayor is forcing children to share space with crack users.

Maison Benoît Labre’s executive director says the solution is not to move day services from the centre, which includes 36 studio apartments for unhoused people, but to add resources to “help us ease the pressure.”

1st Round. b. Williams won three U.S. Opens in a row from 2012-14. The most recent man to win at least two consecutive trophies in New York was Federer, who was the champion five consecutive years, 2004-08.

2nd Round. a. Seppi was beaten 6-0, 7-5, 6-1 by Rafael Nadal at Ashe in the second round on Aug. 31, 2016. The match was delayed for less than 7 1/2 minutes at 3-all in the second set while the roof was shut.

3rd Round. c. The change came a year after Billie Jean King earned $10,000 for winning the 1972 U.S. Open, while the men’s champion, Ilie Năstase, was paid $25,000. The Australian Open didn’t permanently start equal pay until 2001; the French Open in 2006; Wimbledon in 2007.

4th Round. d. Graf, who retired with 22 Grand Slam titles in 1999, was ranked No. 1 for 377 weeks. Navratilova is next with 332, followed by Williams with 319 and Evert with 260.

MONTREAL – Videotron is adding more countries where its customers with a Canada-International plan can use their mobile phones without worrying about roaming charges.

The company says it’s adding 45 destinations where customers with a Canada-International plan can now use their phones.

The increase brings the total number of international destinations included under the plan to 66.

Videotron says subscribers on a Canada-International plan can now use their mobile service in Australia, Japan, India, Vietnam, Sweden, Iceland and other countries without worrying about roaming fees.

The deal comes as the Quebec-based company works to grow its wireless business.

Videotron also owns the Freedom Mobile banner.
