Chevrolet rolled out the performance trim option for the 2023 Corvette C8 on Tuesday, winning the week’s automotive content clicking contest with the impressive sights and sounds of the new Z06. The hotly anticipated top-trim variant of the mid-engined Corvette rides on the same chassis as the C.8R race car, allowing for a 3.6-inch wider stance than the Stingray. To be hand-built in Kentucky, the flat-plane crank V8 “LT6” engine makes 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, which sounds like no Corvette before it. The automaker has also confirmed that a Z07 model with carbon fibre elements and custom tuning will eventually follow.

Toronto’s Samuel Wardlaw was shocked when, after returning his Enterprise Rent-a-Car truck to the contractually agreed upon location in the agreed upon state and at the agreed upon time, he was given a bill for $3,300 , nearly 15 times the agreed upon amount. The 29-year-old told CBC that he used the truck to move some of his belongings to his new home and returned it to the after-hours drop-off spot at 1 p.m., just five hours after picking it up, but was initially put on the hook for the theft of the vehicle’s catalytic converter while it sat parked on the company’s lot. Enterprise has since retracted the charge.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has shed some light on a high-profile Tesla accident that claimed the lives of two occupants. It was previously reported that the two front seats of the Tesla Model S involved in a fatal crash in Spring, Texas on April 17 were empty, indicating the car’s passengers were in the rear while the car drove autopilot. According to the NTSB’s findings, however, this was not the case. The review of vehicle data suggests “both the driver and the passenger seats were occupied, and that the seat belts were buckled when the (event data recorder) recorded the crash.” The safety faction also measured pressure on the accelerator at 98.8 per cent at the time of the crash.

A Montreal KTM warehouse carrying its namesake motorcycles, as well as products from Husqvarna and Gas Gas, was hit by a group of ambitious thieves who looted the Chambly, Quebec facility of a total of 57 2021 and 2022 model-year bikes earlier this month. Three container trucks were allegedly loaded up with the motorized goods and driven off the lot towards parts unknown. The value of the bikes, all of which are guarded by electronic ECUs that can only be disengaged by a dealer, is estimated at $500,000.

United Airlines will offer free internet on flights using service from Elon Musk’s SpaceX

Published

 on

CHICAGO (AP) — United Airlines has struck a deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to offer satellite-based Starlink WiFi service on flights within the next several years.

The airline said Friday the service will be free to passengers.

United said it will begin testing the service early next year and begin offering it on some flights by later in 2025.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The announcement comes as airlines rush to offer more amenities as a way to stand out when passengers pick a carrier for a trip. United’s goal is to make sitting on a plane pretty much like being on the ground when it comes to browsing the internet, streaming entertainment and playing games.

“Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do on board a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world,” CEO Scott Kirby said in announcing the deal.

The airline says Starlink will allow passengers to get internet access even over oceans and polar regions where traditional cell or Wi-Fi signals may be weak or missing.
