Regarding Robert L. Woodson’s “The Left Forgets What Martin Luther King Stood For” (op-ed, Jan. 18): On Monday the nation remembered and honored the powerful legacy of the Rev.
Martin Luther King
Jr. Yet in today’s highly polarized political environment, replete with the sharp-elbowed tactics of Washington infighting, much of King’s work has apparently been forgotten.
Far too many people on the left and in the liberal media are weaponizing race and using it as a political cudgel to bludgeon their opponents. To blithely accuse someone of racism without actually knowing what’s in their heart isn’t only politics at its very worst, it’s humanity at its very worst. To grotesquely weaponize race for partisan political purposes doesn’t just diminish King’s legacy, it diminishes us all.
We would all do well to remember that when people play the race card, everyone gets dealt a losing hand.
