B.C. Lions football players are being monitored closely this week after members of the Edmonton Elks’ football team have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Lions played the Elks last week and this weeks game between Edmonton and Toronto has now been postponed.
The Lions players will have enhanced protocols and will be monitored closely this week. The league does not believe the Lions’ were “exposed to a high risk of infection.”
The CFL indicated they received information that a number of Elks players have tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday when practice was cancelled.
The Elks will not be able to hold practice or travel until Alberta’s chief medical officers and public health officials in the CFL give their approval.
“All of the Elks’ Tier One personnel, including players, coaches and support staff will now be subjected to an enhanced testing protocol, which includes isolation,” said the CFL in a statement.
This week’s game against the Argonauts will be rescheduled.
