Police seek witnesses in road rage incident
The Guelph Police Service is seeking witnesses after a road rage incident Saturday night which left two vehicles demolished and a male facing criminal charges.
Approximately 9:15 p.m. police were called to a parking lot on Silvercreek Parkway North where officers located two heavily-damaged vehicles. Investigation revealed one of the drivers became angry after another driver flashed his high beams while driving on Woodlawn Road West, and began following and eventually intentionally colliding with the other car.
The suspect then smashed the driver’s side window of the other car, pulled the driver out and pushed him to the ground.
A 23-year-old Rockwood male is charged with dangerous driving, assault and mischief under $5,000. He will appear in a Guelph court February 18, 2022.

Male arrested in four-year-old investigation
A Guelph male faces charges after an ATM was extensively damaged more than four years ago.
In February 2017, a male entered a financial institution on Stone Road West and attempted to gain access to the ATM. He was unable to gain access but caused more than $5,500 in damage.
Fingerprints lifted from the damaged machine were submitted to the national Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), and in February 2020 Guelph Police was notified of a match. The male was further identified through a distinctive tattoo visible in the surveillance footage.
On Friday a 30-year-old Guelph male was located in downtown Guelph and arrested on a charge of mischief over $5,000. He will appear in bail court Tuesday.
Charges following downtown rampage
A Guelph male faces assault and weapons charges after a rampage at a downtown business Friday afternoon.
Approximately 3 p.m. Friday, a male armed with a baseball bat attended a business in the area of Macdonell Street and Wilson Street to confront an employee over a personal matter.
He smashed several exterior windows and a glass door, then entered the business and used the bat to cause more damage. He approached the employee while holding the bat as if he was going to swing it before leaving the business. There were no physical injuries reported.
The male was located a short distance away and arrested. A 24-year-old Guelph male is charged with mischief over $5,000, assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in a Guelph court December 31, 2021.
Two drivers arrested for impaired
Two motorists were arrested for impaired driving this weekend in Guelph.
Approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a Guelph Police Service officer on patrol saw a vehicle running a red light at Gordon Street and Wellington Street. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The driver registered a fail on a roadside screening device and was taken to the police station where further testing confirmed she had more than the legal limit of alcohol in her system.
A 22-year-old Guelph female is charged with impaired operation, failing to stop for a red light and novice driver having alcohol in her system. Her driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days. She will appear in a Guelph court November 23, 2021.
Approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday, an officer was driving on Eastview Road near Victoria Road North when she observed a vehicle with a validation sticker which expired in 2019. The vehicle was stopped and the officer noted an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The driver registered a fail on a roadside device and was taken to the police station where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
A 33-year-old Georgetown male is charged with impaired operation and driving without a valid permit. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court November 26, 2021.

Gas stolen during break and enter
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after gasoline was stolen during a commercial break and enter last week.
Approximately 10:30 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to a business on Woodlawn Road East. Two trailers had been entered early Thursday morning after their padlocks were cut off but it did not appear anything was stolen.
Padlocks had also been cut off gas tanks which are used to refuel the company’s vehicles and an unknown quantity of gasoline was stolen. Surveillance footage revealed the suspects arrived in a white GMC Denali or Sierra pickup with a light bar on the roof.
On Thursday evening, approximately 11:30 p.m., a grey vehicle believed to be a Kia Soul was captured on video approaching the pumps, however the locks had been replaced and no further theft was reported.
