Male arrested after brandishing knife
A Guelph male faces weapons charges after brandishing a knife outside a west-end business Tuesday.
Approximately 1:10 p.m. Tuesday a male was standing outside a business in the area of Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway North yelling and behaving aggressively. As an unknown male walked by, the accused pulled a large knife from his sleeve and held it above his head while walking towards the stranger. The other male saw him and the accused turned and walked away.
The accused was located quickly and arrested. Police found the knife inside his sleeve, as well as two folding knives and several razor blades on his person.
A 32-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. He will appear in a Guelph bail court Thursday.
Driver suspended at RIDE, caught driving again
A male who was spotted driving while his licence was suspended following weekend RIDE checks has been charged.
On Saturday night, officers conducted RIDE checks in the downtown core. Several motorists were handed 72-hour driving prohibitions after registering a ‘warn’ on a roadside screening device, meaning their blood-alcohol content was between 50 milligrams and 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
On Monday morning, an off-duty Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit officer who participated in the RIDE checks spotted one of the males driving in the south end. Uniformed officers checked the area but were unable to locate the car.
On Wednesday morning the same traffic officer was patrolling the south end on duty when he saw the same car and pulled it over.
A 27-year-old North York male is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while suspended and G1 driver unaccompanied by a licenced driver.
Female gave false name following collision
A Kitchener female who claimed to be her own mother following a collision two months ago now faces a criminal charge.
Guelph Police Service officers spoke to the female while investigating a collision October 20. The female provided her mother’s name and date of birth on a statement form, however claimed not to have identification with her at the time.
The investigating officer was suspicious as the female did not appear to be as old as she claimed, and eventually arrangements were made for her to attend the Guelph Police station to confirm her identity.
On Tuesday she attended with her mother and her true identity was confirmed. A 23-year-old Kitchener female is charged with obstructing police and careless driving. She will appear in a Guelph court January 25, 2022.
Male charged with resisting arrest
A Guelph male faces charges after resisting arrest on an outstanding warrant Wednesday.
Just after 1 p.m. officers were called to an address downtown where a male was causing a disturbance. The male was identified and sent on his way, but a short time later officers discovered there was a warrant for his arrest for breaching probation.
Officers caught up the male and were able to catch him following a short foot pursuit. The male refused to comply with demands and kept tensing his arms to prevent officers from handcuffing him. Officers eventually gained control and were able to detain him.
A 30-year-old Guelph male is charged with resisting arrest and breach of probation. He will appear in a Guelph court February 1, 2022.
