Former workplace broken into
A Guelph male faces charges after his former workplace was broken into last weekend.
Approximately 12:20 a.m. January 9, a male attended a business in the area of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street and forced open the front doors. The male was confronted inside the store by an employee, but told that employee he still worked there. Given the time of day the employee was unable to confirm this and allowed the male to remain on scene.
The male logged onto a terminal using another employee’s name and password and processed a return, placing more than $800 on a gift card. A loss prevention officer later reviewed footage and confirmed the male was no longer an employee when he entered the store and fraudulently accessed the computer system.
On Wednesday a 19-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with break and enter, fraud under $5,000 and identity fraud. He will appear in a Guelph court February 22, 2022.
Laptop stolen during sale meet-up
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a male had his laptop stolen while meeting with someone who had arranged to buy it.
On Wednesday evening, officers were called to a home in the area of Grange Road and Cityview Drive North. The victim said he was selling a Macbook Pro and arranged the sale through a popular buying and selling website. The supposed buyer attended the seller’s residence and showed him what appeared to be an e-transfer receipt for a transfer of $1,800 into the seller’s account.
After the male left with the laptop the seller realized the receipt was bogus. The suspect is described as a black male, six feet tall and wearing a blue surgical mask. He was driving a black Mazda SUV or hatchback.
The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Daniel Urbshas at 519-824-1212, ext. 7240, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
