This weekend, the Canadian media dished up a large serving of images and words that did nothing to advance our understanding of the transmission of COVID-19.
I’m talking, of course, about the “truckers” protests. They weren’t really protests of truckers but gatherings of people who are sick of vaccine mandates.
As of 2:10 p.m., there were 1,376 vehicles in the Metro Vancouver convoy from Langley, of which only 7.8 percent were semis. The rest were cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs, according to someone who was counting them. Plus, there were a bunch of people waving Canadian flags in downtown Vancouver.
It must be very discouraging for those health workers and researchers trying to educate the public about COVID-19 but who are rarely featured in the media.
So to cheer them up, I’ve listed 12 Twitter accounts that readers might want to follow if they’re not doing so already.
Let’s call them the Essential Dozen (though there are many others who are doing similarly admirable work).
The Essential Dozen includes researchers, doctors, and organizations that have questioned whether governments are doing enough to protect children, seniors, the immune-compromised, and, yes, health workers.
It’s not very complicated. All you have to do is click the link below and follow the account. You might be surprised by what you learn.
But hey, if you prefer reading about the people who were protesting in Ottawa, check out some of the tweets below…
