DNA links female to burglary
A Guelph female was arrested this week after DNA linked her to a commercial break and enter more than a year ago.
In February, 2021, a downtown business was entered after a rear door was damaged to gain entry. A small amount of cash and approximately $5,000 worth of product was stolen from the business.
Evidence collected at the scene was submitted to the Centre of Forensic Science for DNA analysis and was eventually linked to someone on the national DNA database. That person was located at an address in downtown Guelph this week and arrested.
A 38-year-old Guelph female is charged with break and enter, theft over $5,000 and breaching probation. She will appear in a Guelph court May 17, 2022.
Impaired charge laid, company vehicle seized
A Guelph male faces impaired driving charges and had his company vehicle impounded for a week Monday evening.
Just before 6 p.m., the Guelph Police Service received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of Stevenson Street South and Elizabeth Street. The vehicle was located on Victoria Road South and was observed by officers to still be driving erratically, swerving within and outside its lane.
The vehicle was stopped and officers could detect an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and noted signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
A 29-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle, registered to a Mississauga company, was impounded for 14 days. He will appear in a Guelph court April 22, 2022.
Male arrested in break and enter
A Guelph male faces charges in connection with a break and enter to a downtown apartment building earlier this month.
On March 9, a male and female forced open the front door of a building on Neeve Street by bending the frame. The two attended the underground parking garage where they stole numerous items, including the charging cables from two electric scooters. The incident was captured on video.
A 47-year-old Guelph male was located downtown Monday morning and is charged with break and enter, possessing break-in instruments and failing to comply with an undertaking. He will appear in a Guelph court May 3, 2022.
The investigation is ongoing to identify the involved female.
