Artists who were forced to create in isolation during the pandemic will have an opportunity to display their latest works to the public this fall.
The Fall Art Show and Sale (FASS) will take place on Oct. 1-2 at the Oliver Community Centre coinciding Cask and Keg and Festival of the Grape.
The two-day art show includes a competition in nine categories, with public voting, exhibits and demonstrations, entertainment, and an evening reception.
Visual artists in all media and of all ages may enter up to two works. Media categories include photography, fibre arts, oils, acrylics, watercolours, three-dimensional, and mixed/other media. There will be two categories for youth, emerging artists (13-18) and budding artists (12 and under).
Gifted senior students may choose to enter a specific adult medium category. Awards are given in each category. Fibre arts includes (but is not limited to) quilting, weaving, needlework, tapestry, fashion design. Three-dimensional includes sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, metalwork, and glasswork.
The art show theme this year is “Seasons of Life.” It can be interpreted literally or figuratively: aging, nature, changing landscapes, stages of human development, childhood memories, and emotional growth.
Entry forms must be received by Friday, Sept. 9. Artwork is not required until Oct. 1, giving artists three extra weeks to create. Early entries are entered into an early bird draw.
FASS entry forms and more information is available at the Oliver Visitors Information Centre, at oliverartscouncil.org, and via [email protected]. Forms are accepted by mail, scan and e-transfer, and at the Visitors Centre.
