Male arrested for assault on senior
A Guelph male has been arrested in connection with an unprovoked assault against a senior citizen earlier this week.
On Monday morning, a female in her 60s was waiting for a school bus with her granddaughter in the area of Woolwich Street and Mac Avenue. A male unknown to her was walking by when he suddenly turned and struck the female in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground. The victim did not require medical attention.
The male fled on foot but was identified through subsequent investigation. He was located downtown Thursday evening and arrested. A 27-year-old Guelph male is charged with assault and three counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
Pants-free driver arrested for impaired
A Puslinch male faces charges after a driver wearing no pants rear-ended another car Thursday morning.
Approximately 9:45 a.m., police were called to Downey Road near the Hanlon Expressway. The caller was reporting a two-vehicle collision and advised one of the drivers was not wearing pants.
Officers arrived and noted one driver was wearing a hooded sweatshirt on his legs. He also had a cigarette the wrong way in his mouth, with the filtered end facing outwards. Officers spoke to him and noted he was showing signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an inability to focus on the conversation.
The male was transported to the police station to be assessed by a trained drug evaluation expert. It was determined his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.
Witnesses at the scene reported prior to the collision the male was driving so quickly the front wheels of his pickup left the road while driving over speed humps.
A 43-year-old Puslinch male is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court December 22, 2022.
Teens arrested in rec centre break and enter
Three teens were arrested this week in connection with a break and enter to a city recreation centre.
On November 12, a hockey game was being held at the Victoria Road Recreation Centre. It is alleged the three teens attended the game, then left the arena area and used stolen keys to access various secure areas of the facility. Various miscellaneous items were stolen before they were located by staff and left the area.
Due to missing keys, rec centre staff had all the locks changed at an approximate cost of $3,000.
Three suspects were identified through surveillance video and were arrested this week. Three Guelph males, aged 13 to 15, are charged with break and enter and possessing stolen property. They will appear in a Guelph court January 25, 2022.
Male charged with impaired
A Guelph male is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop early Friday.
Approximately 1:20 a.m. police were notified of a possible impaired driver in the city’s west end, and a short time later located the involved vehicle in a parking lot on Imperial Road North. Officers spoke to the driver, who had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath.
He registered a fail on a roadside screening device and was returned to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 40-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court January 10, 2023.
