Teen arrested for waving knife
A Guelph teenager faces a weapons charge after someone was seen brandishing a knife outside a downtown bar early Sunday.
Just before 2 a.m. police were called to the area of Macdonell Street and Wyndham Street North for reports of someone swinging around a pocket knife and threatening to stab passersby.
The male was located in the area and arrested. A knife was recovered from a nearby garbage can. A 17-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will appear in a Guelph court January 25, 2023.
Spools of wire stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after spools of wire were stolen during a break-in at a south-end business early Sunday.
Approximately 3:45 a.m. police were notified of an alarm sounding at a business on Hanlon Creek Boulevard and arrived to find an overhead bay door wide open. Investigation revealed a grinder was used to cut open a rear door and then open the bay door. Several spools of wire were then loaded into a vehicle.

Impaired charge after truck rolls over
A Burlington male was charged with impaired driving after rolling his vehicle in Guelph early Sunday morning.
Approximately 2:45 a.m. Sunday, police were called to the intersection of Victoria Road South and College Avenue East. Investigation revealed a pickup truck which had been eastbound on College Avenue drove straight through the T-intersection, collided with a guardrail and rolled onto its roof.
The driver was treated on scene by paramedics and did not sustain any serious injuries. Police noted signs of impairment and he was arrested and taken to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 19-year-old Burlington male is charged with impaired driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court January 6, 2023.
The male was one of three arrested for impaired driving in Guelph this weekend.
A 40-year-old Toronto female was arrested following a traffic stop right outside the Guelph Police station at 11:17 p.m. Friday. A 53-year-old Woodbridge male was arrested for refusing to provide a breath sample after he was observed trying to avoid a RIDE spot check downtown just before 3 a.m. Saturday.
Both motorists had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

Business entered
The Guelph Police Service is investigating a break and enter at a west-end business Sunday morning.
At 7:14 a.m. Sunday, police were notified of an alarm at a business near Speedvale Avenue West and Silvercreek Parkway North. Officers arrived a short time later and discovered a glass door had been smashed with a rock and product removed from a display cabinet. The stolen product is of little value.

Victim spots own stolen vehicle
A Guelph male faces charges after he was caught sitting in a stolen vehicle Friday morning.
Approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday, a Ford Escape SUV was reported stolen from a residence near downtown. An hour later the owner called to report she saw her vehicle parked behind a business on Edinburgh Road North. Officers arrived and located a male sitting in the driver’s seat.
A 38-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and breaching probation. He will appear in bail court Tuesday.
Three arrested in stolen Jeep
Three people, including two youths, have been arrested after they were stopped in a stolen vehicle Sunday night.
A Guelph Police Service officer was patrolling just after 11 p.m. Sunday when he queried the licence plate on a Jeep Patriot and learned it had been reported stolen from Wellington County. The officer continued to follow the Jeep until other officers were able to attend and assist with stopping it at Woolwich Street and Norfolk Street.
The three occupants were arrested. During a search incident to arrest, a spring-assisted knife was located on the driver.
An 18-year-old Guelph female, 17-year-old Kingston male and 16-year-old Fergus male are jointly charged with being occupants in a stolen motor vehicle. The Kingston male is further charged with possessing a prohibited weapon and breaching a release order.
The Kingston male was held for a bail hearing Monday. The other two accused have been released with January court dates.
