For just the second time in his MLB career, the Toronto Blue Jays slugger will bat in the leadoff spot in Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Toronto’s typical leadoff hitter, George Springer, will get the day off Tuesday. Nathan Lukes slots in behind Guerrero in the two-hole, followed by Ernie Clement and Jesus Sanchez.
The only other time Guerrero started a game off at the top of the order was on Sept. 29, 2024, against the Miami Marlins, and he went 0-for-2 with two walks.
Guerrero has typically operated out of the No. 2 and No. 3 spot in the lineup over his eight-year Blue Jays career.
But the five-time All-Star has struggled to hit for power in 2026, with just three home runs and an OPS of .740 through 65 games — the lowest OPS of his career.
“I want him to keep going, keep understanding he’s the face of our team,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said of Guerrero after Monday’s 5-2 loss to the Phillies. “He’s our best hitter. It’s going to come around for him. It takes a game. It takes a swing.”
You can watch Guerrero in his new spot against the Phillies live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
