Chinese tech giant Huawei is unveiling new features and updates for their products at the company’s annual developer conference in Dongguan City, south China’s Guangdong Province that kicked off on Thursday.
It has been a year of obstacles and difficulties for the technology company, but with the theme of “Together”, the conference is aiming to look away from outside distractions and focus on all things technology.
“Huawei has always been committed to building the HDC as an exciting flagship event for global developers. Through the conference, we hope to establish extensive connections with international developers. We are dedicated to bringing Chinese innovations, especially in mobile internet, to consumers around the world, and also to provide support and services for overseas applications who want to enter the Chinese market,” said Zhu Yonggang, the CMO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group.
Huawei Media Services, also known as HMS and seen as an alternative to Google Media Services, is one of several features that have been updated.
However, the HarmonyOS is what has taken the spotlight with its announcement of being released to international developers in several months and potentially making an appearance on smartphones in 2021.
“HarmonyOS 2.0 will be the industry’s first operating system based on distributed technology for all scenarios. It can break the boundary of a variety of terminals, such as smart peripherals to watches, and big screens to televisions and mobile phones. With this distributed technology, it can provide consumers with a continuous experience, which is a very important technological innovation,” said Zhu.
The operating system is touted by Huawei to have seamless connectivity between multiple devices and is sticking to open and transparent development.
“We hope to create the most open ecosystem in the industry and be able to provide the best service and support for developers around the world,” said Zhu.
