But wait, is it factual that COVID doesn’t discriminate? Played down, COVID-19 sped in, seemingly, affecting the Black and Brown population to a greater extent. Statistically, up to forty per cent more of that societal sector has suffered, sickened and died. Why?
When we look from an historical vantage point, hard-core prejudice is largely at fault. Slavery twisted and perpetuated racism. Racist mentality has caused a worldwide tiered system that places Blacks in traditionally precarious positions in the social order.
Minorities held in lower societal categories have, in every aspect, experienced a severe lack of equitable prospects, economic hardships, scarce educational opportunities, poor housing and more drastic health outcomes. All this has produced isolation and stress, which has allowed for underlaying illness to take hold more easily, so, minorities die at a higher rate. This is not my opinion only.
The pandemic has exposed an ugly underbelly that accepts this positioning in the social order. Hate filled indifference has made it okay to murder Black men on international news.
Powers that be, right down to everyday individuals, have been compelled to stop, look and consider the wisdom of continuing systemically racist, inactivity that could lead to marginalized cultures either perishing or rising up, fundamentally, to equitably breath.
Ponder the world craved for by those who espouse “white privilege,” white supremacist groups and cultural anarchists. No more unwanted subcultures to leach life’s benefits from their supposed superiors. “The masses or the help”, Blacks traditionally fill essential workers roles.
