Despite repeated assurances from the Ford government that there is no shortage of flu vaccine, people continue to report difficulties securing a shot.
The flu program was a key pillar in the government’s plan to deal with a second wave of coronavirus.
Ford said his government ordered 5.1 million doses of the vaccine prior to the pandemic, and then topped up that order with another for 300,000 doses.
In all, Ontario has 1 million more doses than in 2019 and one-third of its residents have been vaccinated, he said.
People deemed especially vulnerable, including residents of long-term care, were prioritized and received the first vaccines.
“Right now, pharmacies have given over a million flu shots in total, 4.8 million have been distributed, so there’s still a long ways to go,” said Ford, who added he will stay at the back of the line to ensure all Ontarians first have the chance to get the flu vaccine.
