Samsung Galaxy S20 FE in hand 1Samsung Galaxy S20 FE in hand 1

The Galaxy S20 FE is Samsung’s latest attempt to lure flagship buyers who don’t want to spend $1,000 on a premium phone. In our review of the phone, we noted that it delivers superb value, a great design, and speedy performance, all for a price starting at $599. The good news is Samsung has decided to launch a Fan Edition version of its flagship models every year.

All these factors got us thinking if you would actually prefer buying Samsung’s Fan Edition phones over other Galaxy S flagships. Here’s how you voted in our poll.

Results

A total of 1,236 Android Authority readers voted on the topic, of which a resounding 58.5% said that they would buy the Samsung Galaxy Fan Edition over any other S series phone. If we were to apply these poll results to the current Galaxy S20 series phones, it sure looks like a majority of our readers would buy the Galaxy S20 FE instead of any other phone in the lineup.

Meanwhile, many respondents also voted in favor of the vanilla Galaxy S series phone. In today’s terms, that would be the Samsung Galaxy S20. The results probably reflect that some people aren’t looking to spend over $1,000 for a Samsung flagship but prefer the upgrades they get in a standard S series flagship over the Fan Edition.

The Samsung Galaxy S Plus and Ultra models got the least number of votes in our poll — 12.4% and 8.2%, respectively. Currently, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is 45% more expensive than the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition. That probably explains why it’s got so few takers in our poll. The base S20 Plus variant was also over $1,000 ($1,199 to be exact) when the poll went out. However, the phone is currently selling for the same $999 price as the vanilla S20. So those looking to get the Galaxy S20 right now should consider getting the S20 Plus without having to pay more.

Your comments

  • Anthorama: They launch phones starting at 1000e and then worry about sales. How ironic is that?
  • Phillip: Samsung has phones in every price range, so not sure what you are complaining about. All the flagship phones are $1,000 now, even OnePlus.
  • Shizuma: I haven’t been interested in a Samsung phone since the Note 9. Everything past that is full of compromises and sky-high prices. The compromises are purposely damaged screens with holes in them for no reason other than a useless screen-to-body ratio number, a lack of a headphone jack, a massive camera tumor slapped on the back of the phones like an afterthought, and on some models, no SD card storage, and going further back no IR blaster. Basically, it’s a lot more money for a bunch of features I couldn’t care less about and missing features I do care about.
  • Gianluca Di Maggio: Well, for Europeans, it seems to be the only good way to get their phones with a Snapdragon. In this case (S20 and variants), it more than just a nice alternative with how plagued the Exynos 990 was.

That’s it for this week! Thanks as usual for all the votes and comments. Give us your thoughts on the poll and its results in the comments section.
