A patient went to an emergency department at a hospital in the counties, telling front line staff they had recently travelled to an area affected by the virus.

The Public Health Ontario Lab confirmed today the patient’s test results were negative and a second test by the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg confirmed that diagnosis.

The patient did not need to be hospitalized and was sent home with instructions to self-isolate. The patient has now recovered.

In a release, Grey Bruce Public Health maintains the risk to residents is low.

“In discussions with hospital staff, we are confident that all appropriate precautions were taken in this situation, and the appropriate protocols were followed to minimize risk to others. The system worked as it should,” said Dr. Ian Arra, medical officer of health for the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
