Elon Musk, the tech magnate known for his bold ventures and even bolder tweets, has confirmed the birth of his twelfth child. This latest arrival, his third with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, has reignited discussions about Musk’s personal life and his views on population.
While details surrounding the baby’s sex and name remain undisclosed, Musk took to The New York Post’s Page Six to address claims of secrecy. “All our friends and family know,” he stated. “Failure to issue a press release doesn’t mean ‘secret.'”
A Family of Twelve: A Look at Musk’s Brood
This newest addition brings Musk’s total number of children to twelve. He shares five children with his first wife, Justine Musk (née Wilson): twins Griffin and Vivian, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian. Tragically, their firstborn, Nevada, passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at just 10 weeks old.
Musk’s relationship with singer Grimes (Claire Boucher) resulted in three more children. Their unique names – X Æ A-12 (now X), Exa Dark Sideræl (now Y), and Techno Mechanicus – have garnered significant public attention.
Canadian Connections and Controversial Views
Though born in South Africa, Musk has a strong Canadian connection. His mother, Maye Musk, hails from Regina, Saskatchewan, and Musk himself held Canadian citizenship after attending Queen’s University in Kingston. Interestingly, all the mothers of his children are Canadian as well: Justine Wilson, a writer, Grimes, a musician, and Shivon Zilis, who currently serves as director of operations and special projects at Neuralink.
Beyond the size of his family, Musk’s views on population have sparked debate. A vocal advocate for large families, he often expresses concern about declining birth rates. In a 2022 interview, he declared, “Bravo to big families,” emphasizing his desire to have “as many (kids) as I am able to spend time with and be a good father to.”
He has taken this concern a step further, tweeting in 2022, “a collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces, by far.” This stance has surprised some, considering other pressing issues like climate change. However, Musk remains firm in his belief that population decline poses a serious threat. He even co-funded Population Wellbeing Initiative, a think tank focused on the potential consequences of low birth rates.
The Discussion Continues
The news of Musk’s 12th child has reignited discussions on a variety of topics – from the right to privacy surrounding personal life choices to the ethics of large families in a world grappling with resource limitations. Whether Musk’s actions inspire emulation or spark criticism, one thing is certain: the tech mogul continues to be a figure who commands significant public attention.
Does the shared Canadian background of Musk’s children hold any significance, or is it simply a coincidence? Comment and let us know.
