The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) reported three new cases of COVID-19 Friday, all linked to community spread.
The new cases come as London’s assessment centres processed their highest one-day test total, with 728 people getting swabbed. Since Monday, the Oakridge and Carling Heights centres have processed 2,821 tests, resulting in 18 positive outcomes.
“At this point I don’t see the numbers that we’re seeing in Middlesex and London as concerning,” said Dr. Chris Mackie, the MLHU medical officer of health. “Primarily because we’re actually fairly stable in spite of both the economy reopening and also a huge increase in the number of tests that are being done each day.”
With testing now more than double what it was a few weeks ago, and consistently lower numbers of new cases, Mackie said it was “reassuring.”
No new deaths have been reported in Middlesex-London since June 12.
The local total is now at 603 COVID-19 cases in the region, with 87 per cent considered resolved, according to data from the MLHU.
COVID-19 across the region and beyond
Southwestern Public Health, which covers St. Thomas and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported no new cases of COVID-19 Thursday. The regional total stands at 82 cases, with 70 resolved and four deaths.
Meanwhile, Ontario reported 178 additional cases of COVID-19 Friday morning. The latest case count marks the sixth day in a row that there have been fewer than 200 new cases reported province-wide. There are now 2,281 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, according to the Ministry of Health’s data.
Across Canada, there have been 100,565 confirmed and presumptive coronavirus cases.
