
B.C. health officials are reporting 1,079 new COVID-19 cases this past weekend, 587 of which were in Interior Health alone.
There were 422 cases on Saturday, 364 on Sunday, and another 293 today. In Fraser Health, there were 258 new cases this weekend, 142 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 62 in Island Health, and 30 in Northern Health.
Active cases are now at 3,036, an increase of 625 from Friday’s update. Interior Health has the most active cases right now at 1,755 followed by 586 in Fraser Health, 387 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 188 is Island Health, 108 in Northern Health, and 12 in people who normally live outside of Canada.
The number of people in hospital with the virus is now at 68, with 20 people in intensive care. Those numbers are comparable to Friday, when 52 people were in hospital with COVID-19, 24 in ICU.
In the past 72 hours, five new COVID deaths have been reported taking the provincial total to 1,777 people.
There are now 82 per cent (3,801,960) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. who have gotten their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 70.3 per cent of people (3,257,931) are fully vaccinated.
Earlier today, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced plans to cut down the timeline between first and second vaccine doses to 28 days from the current 49, as COVID-19 cases rise in the province.
