Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ilya Mikheyev will miss at least three months after suffering a serious laceration on his wrist against the New Jersey Devils, the team announced Saturday.
Mikheyev was taken to a hospital on Friday night, where he underwent surgery to repair an artery and tendons in his wrist. The 25-year-old will remain in the hospital for further monitoring before he returns to Toronto.
The Russian forward is expected to make a full recovery, and a more accurate timeline for his return to the lineup will be provided in three months, the team said in a press release.
Ilya Mikheyev had an artery and tendons severed in his right wrist by the skate cut in New Jersey last night. Scary, scary situation.
In a press release this morning, the #leafs thanked the #NJDevils medical team for their “urgent care.”

Mikheyev sprinted off the ice during the third period after Jesper Bratt‘s skate blade accidentally lacerated his right wrist. A trail of blood followed him to the bench.
In 39 games with Toronto this season, Mikheyev has eight goals and 15 assists. He ranks in the top five among NHL rookies in goals, assists, points, shots and plus-minus.
