
The regional government, the House of Friendship and Union Sustainable Development Co-operative have recieved funding fromt he federal government to help them more effectively tackle the affordable housing crisis.
The $479,350 grant, provided by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, will help support a number of local initiatives.
The money will be used to help people transition out of homelessness ($120,450), increase access to affordable housing ($175,500) and help locals buy their first homes ($183,400).
The grant is part of a Canada-wide effort by the federal government. House of Friendship, the Region of Waterloo and Union Sustainable Development Co-operative are three of 38 Canadian organizations to recieve the funding, which is a part of the National Housing Strategy Solutions Lab.
