Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé is travelling to the province’s Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region on Monday after there was a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases recorded there over the weekend.
The region north of Quebec City remained largely unaffected during the first wave, but has seen a rise in cases over the past week.
“The situation is very worrying in certain regions, mainly in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Lanaudière,” Dubé said on Twitter.
The province recorded 1,397 cases on Sunday, the highest daily total since the start of the pandemic, and another 1,169 on Monday.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

- New or worsening cough.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Sudden loss of smell without a stuffy nose.
- Gastrointestinal issues (such as nausea, diarrhea).

Quebec government reminders for preventing the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Wear a mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible. Wearing a mask is mandatory in enclosed public spaces across the province.
- Stay at least two metres away from other people as much as possible.
- Self-isolate for 14 days after returning from a stay outside the country.
