Avid introduced the March release of its Media Composer (2021.3). The new version includes new features, enhancements, UI customization, streamlined editing functions, new Avid Titler + capabilities, and improvements to the new Interoperable Master Format (IMF) Window.
Avid states: “The definition of “New and Improved,” Media Composer’s Interoperable Master Format (IMF) Packaging workflow takes all the support we added in 2019, throws it out the window, and replaces it with a more robust, extensible, and powerful toolset”. The 2021.3 version introduces the ability to create IMF supplementals through the new IMF window. You can link to or create IMF originals and then generate a supplemental package either inside or outside of the original without the need to re-encode existing media. You can burn multiple CPLs under one IMP.
The new Bin Status Bar located at the bottom of a Bin provides you with information regarding the total number of items in a bin. You can either perform a multi-select in the bin or simply view information about the entire bin. There’s even an interface setting to show or hide the Bin Status Bar per bin.
Based on user feedback, Avid added a host of new ways you can customize and “dress up” your Media Composer to suit your needs. With two new highlight colors (that adjust with the interface brightness settings, just like the existing highlights), and new mid-gray skin (slightly darker than the current lightest option), you now have more choices when creating your ideal experience. With all the screen time these days, these options are designed to reduce eye fatigue. Take it easier on the eyes.
Now there’re more functions and features directly within the Composer window and mini toolbar, giving more control of titles without having to open up the Effect Editor. You now can rotate text and shapes using handles within the Composer window. Additionally, the text will now automatically wrap within a defined text box, and opacity can be applied to gradients within the color picker.
The Find Bin command can now be accessed directly in the Timeline when pointing to a segment. No selection is required; simply right-click over the desired segment and select Find Bin to highlight the clip in a bin. The bin will open if closed, come forward, and the respective clip will be selected.
Now when you move segments vertically or horizontally in the timeline, you won’t overwrite existing segments in the process. Nothing’s overwritten until you commit to the change.
The main goal of the 2021.3 version of Media Composer is to attack and improve the software’s main Achilles-Heel, which is usability, and to reduce the number of mouse clicks per action. As a Final Cut Pro user, I can defiantly say that most of the improvements presented here are were already implemented a long time ago in FCPX. Nevertheless, It’s nice seeing that Avid invests R&D resources focused on making Media Composer much more user-friendly and thus expanding its market beyond Hollywood.

The launch of the platform, dubbed TRUTH Social, comes months after Trump was banned from most major social media sites.
Former United States President Donald Trump has announced the launch of his own social media platform, nine months after being expelled from all major sites for his role in allegedly inciting violence at the US Capitol following his election defeat last year.
In a statement on Wednesday, Trump said the launch of Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) and its “TRUTH Social” app is meant to remedy his suspensions from sites such as Facebook and Twitter in the wake of the January 6 storming of the Capitol by his supporters as legislators met to certify the victory of the Republican’s Democratic rival, incumbent President Joe Biden.
“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable,” Trump said in the written statement included in a news release.
“I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech,” he said.
The social network is set for a preliminary rollout in November and a full rollout in the first quarter of 2022, according to the release. It is being created through a new company formed by a merger of the TMTG and a special acquisition company.
The social media platform is the first of the three stages in the company’s plans, followed by a subscription video-on-demand service called TMTG+ that will feature entertainment, news and podcasts, and an entry to the cloud-computing space, according to the release.
Trump, who was impeached by the US House of Representatives for his role in egging on rioters on January 6, but later acquitted of the charges in the then Republican-controlled US Senate, has been vocal about his desire to launch his own media platform following his presidency.
An earlier effort to launch a blog on his existing website was abandoned after the page drew dismal views.
In May, a semi-independent Facebook oversight board upheld Trump’s suspension from the site, on which he had about 35 million followers, while criticising the open-ended nature of the ban and calling for the company to determine a more concrete timeline of the ban within six months.
In July, Trump sued Facebook, Twitter and Google, along with their chief executives, seeking the restoration of his accounts and punitive damages.
