The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) reported three stabbing incidents that occurred within minutes of each other on Monday night, causing concern and unrest in the downtown area.
At approximately 9:40 p.m. PT, VPD responded to the first report of a 33-year-old man being stabbed in the back on Granville Street, near Nelson Street. Minutes later, another call came in reporting that a 41-year-old man had been stabbed near Granville and Davie Street. The final incident occurred around 9:52 p.m. when a 32-year-old man was stabbed near Nelson and Granville Street while patrol officers were already in the vicinity responding to the earlier attacks.
All three victims are currently recovering from their injuries, although the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. Police stated that there is no indication that any of the victims knew each other or the suspect.
A suspect has been arrested in downtown Vancouver and is currently in custody. However, police have not released any further details about the suspect as the investigation continues.
Mayor Ken Sim issued a statement addressing the stabbings and also referenced the recent discovery of two women’s bodies near English Bay, calling both incidents “deeply unsettling.”
“Though these incidents are unrelated, they have shaken our community. My heartfelt thoughts are with the victims and their families during this extremely challenging time,” Sim said.
Police are also investigating the deaths of the two women whose bodies were discovered on Sunday and Monday near English Bay. Investigators have yet to establish a cause of death for either woman and are working to determine if the two deaths are connected.
The VPD continues to investigate both the stabbings and the deaths of the two women, urging anyone with information to come forward. The recent incidents have heightened community concerns and underscored the need for vigilance and safety in the area.
