China has urged Britain to stop sending wrong signals to the Taiwan secessionist forces, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
Ma made the statement in response to a question on the so-called “trade dialog” the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities held with the British side.
“There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. We firmly oppose the countries with diplomatic relations with China conducting official exchanges in any form with China’s Taiwan region. We urge Britain to abide by the one-China principle and stop sending wrong signals to the Taiwan secessionist forces. Facts have proved that the DPP authorities have been accustomed to colluding with external forces to seek political self-interests under various guises like economic and trade cooperation, using Taiwan’s resources to court favor of foreign countries by constantly selling off Taiwan’s economic interests and the well-being of Taiwan people. Such tricks have been seen through by more and more Taiwan compatriots and cannot escape the doom of failure,” Ma said.
