A man in his 50s who recently returned from Iran is British Columbia’s ninth confirmed case of COVID-19.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, say the man lives in the Fraser Health district and is now in self-isolation at home.
Another 18 cases of the disease, which is transmitted by a novel coronavirus, have been confirmed in Ontario and one in Quebec. No COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in Canada.
On Monday, health officials south of the border in Washington state announced the disease had killed six people. Four were residents of a nursing home in the Seattle-area city of Kirkland. Two others lived in the surrounding county.
Researchers believe the COVID-19 virus may have been circulating in the state for weeks undetected, and believe more cases will likely come to light.
